Role: Graphic Designer and Business Analyst
Company: NC Growth Smart-Up
Client: Footprints in the Garden

In November 2022, while working with NC Growth Smart-Up at the UNC Kenan-Flagler School of Business, I led the brand development for Footprints in the Garden, a small African-American-owned local produce farm in Mt. Olive, North Carolina. My role involved designing their new logo and merchandising materials, which were introduced at a highly publicized outreach event to establish their refreshed brand and business strategy. These branding elements continue to be used by the farm today.
This business development project was part of the Entrepreneur Technical Assistance Program (E-TAP), which provided Footprints in the Garden with new marketing materials, a website, a CSA contract, and financial projections. The initiative also connected them with key partners, increasing their reach and impact within the Triangle region.
Footprints in the Garden is a spray-free vegetable operation that collaborates with other local farmers to provide a wide range of produce, including strawberries, watermelon, arugula, and squash. Managed by Carrie and Tim Martin, the farm focuses on sustainable practices, including hoop house growing and conservation efforts. The farm also serves as an educational platform, hosting over 30 events annually to teach conservation practices to farmers, landowners, and the community.
Through these efforts, Footprints in the Garden has strengthened its community ties and continued its legacy of promoting sustainable agriculture and local food accessibility.
