In the summer of 2022, I joined the Affordable Housing and Sustainable Communities Initiative as a publication designer for the Affordable and Resilient Housing, Duffyfield Community, New Bern project. Collaborating with Prof. Thomas Barrie from the School of Architecture at NCSU College of Design, I created a comprehensive report to communicate the project's findings to 300 stakeholders.
Project Overview:
The Affordable and Resilient Housing, Duffyfield Community, New Bern project was a collaboration between the City of New Bern Development Services Department, the NC Sea Grant and Water Resources Research Institute, and the Affordable Housing and Sustainable Communities Initiative at NC State University. It aimed to address the pressing issue of affordable housing in underserved communities affected by disinvestment and climate change.
Project Outcomes:
The primary objectives were to provide:
Best practices and prototypes for revitalizing Duffyfield.
A playbook for grant applications, professional hiring, and RFPs.
Research resources to empower the community in shaping its future.
This initiative supports the City of New Bern in creating sustainable housing opportunities, using research as a foundation for ongoing development and community empowerment.
